  18.   TROUBLE SHOOTING COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS CONNECTING TO IBM
  19.   EE DATABASE MANAGER:

  21.   If you run into problems when you first use Paradox SQL Link with
  22.   the IBM EE Database Manager, try to isolate the problem.  (The
  23.   Database Administrator must perform these tasks, keeping the
  24.   needs of other applications in mind.)

  26.     -> Make sure that the server was installed to support remote
  27.        database access.  One way to verify this is to install
  28.        another OS/2 machine and run the Query Manager.
  29.  
  30.        -> Verify that the network layer is functioning by trying to
  31.           share files and print jobs to the spooler.

  33.     -> If you are using LAN Server and cannot connect, check to see
  34.        that your network software is running.  If DOS workstations
  35.        can access a shared directory on the server, then you have
  36.        the correct drivers loaded and you know your hardware is
  37.        working properly.

  39.     -> If you're using a Token Ring network, verify that your
  40.        CONFIG.SYS contains the following lines:

  151.           16 for a requestor that NETBIOS names.  Decreasing this
  152.           value means sharing fewer resources and adding fewer
  153.           messaging names.  Increasing this number means sharing
  154.           more resources.

  157.           Tools|SQL|Connecting|Select screen.  If you are using the
  158.           Query Manager on your server, the server name is the
  159.           workstation name shown on the Tools|Reconfigure screen in

  162.        -> A codepage is a table that defines a coded character set
  163.           for a language or country.  To find the active codepage
  164.           on your server, type chcp at the OS/2 prompt.  Paradox
  165.           returns a remote database error if you try to use a
  166.           database that was created under a different codepage than
  167.           the one currently set.  You must modify your CONFIG.SYS
  168.           if the Query Manager's codepage specifies a different
  169.           number that the one on your workstation.

  171.        -> Verify that the Database Manager and all corresponding
  172.           pieces are installed on your server by entering the
  173.           command syslevel at the OS/2 prompt.  IBM EE returns the
  174.           version number, the location on all installed elements,
